(DEA), a top-ranked consulting design firm with a 48-year legacy, is seeking a motivated and visionary Roads and Highways Practice Leader to join our team.

As the largest practice area at DEA, our Roads and Highways Practice provides multidisciplinary expertise that supports clients in achieving project success while delivering high-quality transportation solutions. Our clients range from state departments of transportation and local municipalities to federal agencies and metropolitan planning organizations. We tackle projects of varying scales, from local roadway enhancements to complex highway corridor projects.

As the Practice Leader, you will provide strategic leadership and management across the firm, working closely with the Transportation Business Unit (TBU) to meet or exceed metrics and performance goals. Your responsibilities will include shaping and driving the Practice's strategy in alignment with DEA's overall business objectives. You will play a pivotal role in building the Practice's capabilities, driving revenue growth, and ensuring profitability. Additionally, you will collaborate with regional Group Leaders, Market Leaders, and Project Managers to balance workload across areas, while leading efforts to elevate the Practice's national brand and adopt cutting-edge best practices and technology trends.

Practice Leader Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for developing Practice yearly budget and meeting Practice revenue and growth metrics and TBU overall profitability.





  • Responsible for short and long-term workload leveling and forecasting by seeking and supporting workshare opportunities.





  • Working with the Group Leaders, Market Leaders, and Delivery Leaders to ensure Practice resources are available to complete existing project work as well as work committed to in proposals.





  • Responsible for successful recruitment and retention efforts in their practice area.





  • Budget for and support employee morale opportunities





  • Make decisions and recommendations to the Business Leader on strategic investments, and staff performance and compensation decisions.





  • Responsible for Practice level branding efforts by budgeting and coordinating national conferences, development of papers/presentations, etc.





  • Responsible for developing and fostering Practice staff communities with internal strategic planning.





  • Assess and manage staff technical skills and capabilities.





  • Supervise and manage the performance of the Group Leaders.





  • Assess practice area software and equipment needs and trends and makes approvals and/or recommendations.





  • Maintain a skills inventory including certifications, licenses, health and safety, etc.





  • Serve as the principal in charge/project manager/task leader as needed.



Project Manager Responsibilities:



  • Ensure excellence in project execution for on-time, on-budget deliverables of quality that meet or exceed the industry's standard of care.





  • Foster client relations and support Market Leaders and Client Team Leaders in business development opportunities





  • Provide design leadership and guidance to staff. Review documents and deliverables for compliance with contractual and professional requirements as part of DEA's Quality Management requirements.





  • Adhere to firmwide tools, processes, and policies including project accounting (set up, budgeting, etc.), contracting, and quality requirements.



Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Planning.





  • 15+ years' experience working on Transportation engineering design, traffic operations, or transportation planning projects.





  • 10+ years leading a large team or group.





  • PE





  • Experience and staff relationships with state and/or local agencies in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and/or California.

  • Anticipated salary range for this position is $215,000-$350,000 depending on location and experience



This position can be located in our Portland, OR, Olympia, WA, Spokane, WA, Boise, ID, Coeur d'Alene, ID, Salt Lake City, UT offices.
