Overview

Job Purpose

InterContinental Exchange's (ICE's) Sustainable Finance Team is a leading provider of analytics and insights that underpin the financial sector's ability to respond to the interrelated crises of climate change and widening socioeconomic inequality.

We are searching for a multi-skilled candidate with a quantitative background for the position of Research Analyst. The ideal candidate will have the ability, and interest, in using analytical techniques to turn traditionally qualitative datasets into objective quantitative solutions for our clients.

The analyst will be responsible for supporting social impact initiatives as part of our growing Sustainable Finance team, working alongside likeminded scientists and analysts. The person will be part of a team responsible for planning, conducting, and coordinating in-house research. The job is a full-time position in either Boston, MA or New York City, NY with a requirement to be in the office four days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Sourcing and analyzing U.S. census and other government data (e.g., Department of Education, EPA, CDC)
  • Analyzing spatial data using mapping software
  • Discovering patterns and trends in both time and space
  • Developing applications and tools for data cleaning/preparation
  • Programming and writing scripts to perform geospatial analyses
  • Producing reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations
  • Creating geospatial boundaries in QGIS and linking them to municipal bond securities
  • Coordinating across multiple internal teams, including product management, business development and general client services

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelors or master's degree in environmental science, data science, or related field
  • Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python
  • Interest or experience in public policy, climate policy, or social justice
  • Outstanding quantitative skill set and analytical mindset
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

In addition to the above technical skills and knowledge, you will inevitably acquire knowledge in the following subject domains:

  • Municipal bonds, mortgage-backed securities, sovereign debt, and corporate bonds & equities, especially through the Environmental-Social-Governance (ESG) paradigm of finance
  • Social and political sciences as they relate to the financial services sector
  • Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Compute, Google Cloud Storage)

Schedule

This role offers work from home flexibility of one day per week.

New York Base Salary Range

The expected base salary for this role if located in New York City is between 76,600 - 122,500 USD. The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange's incentive compensation. While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual.
