DEKA's Model Shop functions as an in house service bureau that works closely with members of the design team as well as engineers across all projects at the company. We make everything from small prototype parts and fixtures to help with engineering efforts; up to large full scale appearance models that we use to illustrate ideas to high profile clientele. We even do short run manufacturing to bridge the gap between development and production. The model shop provides key services to the company to help illustrate the vision of what the end product can look and function like. How you will make an impact as a Model Maker at DEKA:

  • Prep and paint parts in our automotive downdraft paint booth using an HVLP spray gun
  • Finish 3D printed and machined parts
  • Support the existing model making team with day to day tasks
  • Produce parts to drawing specifications
  • Operate a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and a wide variety of hand and power tools
  • Produce silicone molds, color match and cast urethane parts, cycle molds
  • Assist in the creation of appearance models using a variety of fabrication methods
  • Organize and maintain a clean working environment
  • This candidate will be expected to challenge and grow their skill set as part of the Model Shop's efforts to find new ways to expand DEKA's prototyping capabilities

To be successful as a Model Maker, you will need the following skills and experience:

  • One to five years of relevant work experience
  • Attention to detail; showcased through a portfolio of relevant work
  • Ability and interest to learn new shop skills and computer programs
  • Experience with HVLP painting
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, Illustrator, and AutoCAD
  • Enjoys solving problems and naturally curious about new technologies
  • Silicone molding and casting experience is a plus
  • Familiar and capable with typical wood shop and machinist tools
  • Relevant college degree
  • HS graduates with impressive portfolios will be considered

  • Applicants must provide a resume and a digital portfolio (smaller than 7 megabytes) demonstrating their capabilities upon applying for the position. Applicants who do not provide examples of work will not be considered.
