Exec. Director/VP, Onsite Programs
Purpose:
The Executive Director/Vice President, Onsite Programs will provide oversight and key leadership to Colonna's Shipyard's onsite industrial repair and fabrication division (providing premier customer site welding and field machining) and is responsible for the proper administration, planning, scheduling, budget, and successful execution of the division's safety/quality/cost/schedule goals. This executive leader is responsible for successful business development efforts to grow the division by strategizing scalable growth opportunities, implementing sound operational systems, and building/maintaining a ready-deployable and highly skilled workforce to meet and exceed customers' needs.
Additionally, this position is part of the senior executive team tasked with the development and execution of short and long-range strategic planning efforts that support enterprise-level objectives.
The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA, and will require hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations, as needed. A hybrid work location may also be considered for a well-qualified candidate (remote with at least 5 business days onsite per month.) Position will require regular travel.
Job Description:
This position will lead a subordinate team of professionals and skilled trades to successfully execute commercial and government industrial repair and fabrication projects, predominantly at customer sites across the US and beyond, and will drive success by building and maintaining effective customer relationships.
Key sales and business development duties include:


  • Examine current project and sales strategies while exploring targeted markets and customers to build a sustainable growth plan serving various markets to include (but not limited to) defense, power, hydro, wind, industrial, and commercial marine.
  • Build and leverage partnerships with sales and support teammates across the enterprise to identify common opportunities and explore joint efforts.
  • Maintain and strengthen current customer relationships to secure growth work and develop longer-term business goals to create new relationships, expand capabilities, and penetrate new markets.
  • Support contract lifecycle (to include oversight of cost proposal prep, development of contractual terms and conditions, negotiation, dispute/REA/claims management, and administration of contracts) in accordance with company procedures, applicable laws, and customer requirements with effective collaboration with internal stakeholders (Project Team, Production, Estimation, Business Operations, etc.).
  • Lead marketing and branding efforts for the division, regularly represent division/company at industry trade shows and symposiums, and continuously monitor performance of marketing activities.


Division and Technical Management:


  • Oversee all operational, project, and contractual compliance for division's efforts while coordinating with craft, production, QA, Safety and other support teams to ensure planning requirements are established and met.
  • Manage development of and adherence to project schedules, with support of resource teams, to include evaluation of required resources (labor, subcontractors, materials, and rental equipment), "make/buy" decisions, and deconflict as needed.
  • Direct project planning and execution, submittal of required documentation and reports, and track/update on production progress and project profitability.
  • Frequent communication with customers expected, to include identification of program requirements, clarity, status updates and obtain customer feedback (both formal and informal).
  • Provides leadership, direction, coaching/mentoring, ongoing feedback, and professional development to direct and indirect supports.
  • Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates.


Qualifications:


  • Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related field and extensive experience in a technical industry obtained through progressive roles, including leadership and sales-focused positions.
  • Prior experience supporting ship repair/modernization, industrial repair and fabrication, and/or field machining highly preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated experience designing and implementing successful sales strategies, building and maintaining strong customer relations, and effectively leading multi-disciplinary teams in technical industries.
  • Must have proven ability to drive improved cost, schedule, quality and safety performance and continuous improvements through effective project management and leveraging experience with program/project management tools, processes, and procedures.
  • Must possess a sound understanding of business financials.
  • Must have effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with effective abilities in negotiation and persuasion, as well as aptitude for conflict resolution, problem solving/de-escalation, and sound decision-making.
  • Must be organized, with the ability to drive improved cost and schedule performance, while directing multiple, overlapping projects to completion within stated deadlines.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain necessary credentials to access military installations, customer sites, etc.


Travel Requirements:


  • Frequent Travel; 50% or less.


Physical Requirements:


  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time.
  • Moving about accomplishing tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Requires safe navigation of Company and client shipyard and industrial work sites.
