Overview

The Welding Inspector and/or Coating Inspector is to inspect and ensure that proper welding and procedures are qualified and utilized and proper documentation is maintained. All activities must be performed in accordance with API-1104 (latest addition) and industry standards. Duties for inspecting line pipe, fittings, valves, and related components and perform

visual inspections and validating tests performed by a QC inspector as well as documenting these results daily. Inspections may be inspecting piping components prior to, in-process, or following coating operations. They will need to be able to comprehend API, NACE, and ASTM Specifications, Client Specifications, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), Manufacturing Procedure Specifications and be able to apply them to the material or product being inspected.



Responsibilities

    Perform duties designated by the Chief Inspector in accordance with the job requirements outlined in the assigned activity and contract specification.
  • Monitor all welding activities in accordance with API-1104 (latest edition) and project specifications.
  • Ensure all activities performed in safe and professional manner.
  • Document all inspection activities on a daily basis.
  • Maintain daily records to support documentation of welding activities.
  • Responsible for tracking all materials used for pipeline construction including joint numbers, joint lengths and heat numbers associated with all materials (pipe stock, fittings, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with all project specific environmental requirements.
  • Inform Chief Inspector immediately of any safety or construction deviations or any problems and/or anticipated problems.
  • Comply with safety standards as outlined in the company's Health and Safety Handbook and those prescribed by the job site.
  • Review the applicable coating system specifications.
  • Initiate the qualification of surface preparation.
  • Ensure the readiness of the QA/QC requirements are met before start of coating application.
  • Initiate inspection requests for client's monitoring inspections.
  • Ensure the calibration/validation of blasting/coating Equipment, tools, etc.
  • Monitor environmental conditions, including but not limited to: ambient temperature, dew point, relative humidity.
  • Monitor curing operations.
  • Perform visual inspections as needed.
  • Validate WFT, DTF results performed by QC inspector.
  • Validate Holiday testing of coated components.
  • Monitor and inspect for handling damage.
  • Witness and document all repairs.
  • Prepare the inspection reports, internal NCR's, etc.


Qualifications

  • 10 years' experience required in related field of piping or fittings or valve with coating and logistics.
  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One (1) of the following Certifications:
    • Welding Inspector (CWI) though the American Welding Society
    • Certified Pipe Welding Inspector (CPWI) with documented and verifiable work experience related to transmission / process piping and API-1104 and API - 1169
    • NACE/AMPP CIP Level 2 or 3
  • Fundamental knowledge of ASTM coating specifications as it relates to piping material.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate to other team members and client personnel.
  • Must be able to write clearly and concisely to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Skilled with MS Office suite.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Desired:

  • 5+ years' experience required in related field of piping or fittings or valve with coating and logistics.
  • Proficient with computers and portable electronic tablets and supporting software applications, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance terminology, methods, and tools.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of testing best practices, version control practices and defect management practices.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Hourly rate for this position is $60.00 - $70.00. The starting rate will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
