Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Hotel Operations & Membership, this position will answer phones, make reservations for the hotel/dining room/tennis courts, check in and check out hotel guests, answer member inquiries regarding payments and membership, and other questions pertaining to The Athenaeum. This is an occasional position. Schedule flexibility in working occasional hours and shifts is a must, including day, swing and overnight shifts.

Essential Job Duties



  • Handle and respond to inquiries pertaining to club facilities and services, most specifically the club's hotel rooms, membership and dining amenities. Respond to member and guest inquiries in a courteous and professional manner; route and/or refer calls as appropriate.
  • Assist other front desk staff in maintaining room availability records and member/guests' accounts via automated reservation system. Process and post member/guest charges and collect guest payments upon check-out.
  • Work with other front desk staff in researching member account numbers to reconcile guest folio charges and billing issues.
  • Record Athenaeum member dining reservations received via phone, email or at the counter from members and guests.
  • Market and promote Athenaeum special events to members and guests whenever opportunities occur over the phone or in person.
  • Responsible for all telephone calls received on the Athenaeum's trunk-line-routing calls to Athenaeum guests or staff as required. Receive and/or deliver messages, mail, parcels to members, guests, or staff as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications



  • High school or equivalent education with 1 to 2 years of experience in a service industry.
  • The selected candidate must pass a pre-employment background investigation to be hired for this position.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Preferable hotel or private club experience.
  • Typing, calculator and basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and POS data systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience providing high level customer service in a professional manner. Must be able to work under limited supervision and perform multiple assignments in a dynamic workplace environment.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Hiring Range

$18.50 - $20.00 per hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
