Overview

The Lead Data Platform Engineer is responsible for the development, configuration, maintenance, testing, and monitoring of processes and products in support of our enterprise data platform. This role shares in the ownership of our data platform, building and positioning it as a crucial pillar of executing the Data Strategy for Children's Mercy Hospital.

    This role will primarily work in a Databricks environment.
  • Machine Learning Operations (ML-Ops) experience strongly desired. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing AI models, along with the safeguards to make sure they run smoothly with continuous system monitoring to maintain model performance.
  • This is a Fully Remote role. Candidates must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

The ideal candidate will have:

* Proficiency in data architecture, data warehousing, and/or schema design

* Proficiency with Spark/Scala, Kafka, Python, etc. with hands-on in data interchangeable formats like JSON

* Experience working with structured and semi-structured data architectures

* Experience working with object-oriented languages

* Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases

* Expertise in developing scalable ETL pipelines and processes

* Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC)

* Experience with Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) integrations

* Understanding of agile methodology and software development lifecycles

* Proficiency in Databricks and HL7 messaging standards

* Experience with Azure cloud services

* Microsoft Azure Fundamentals or Data Engineering certification - Preferred

* Exposure to Terraform, Airflow, and/or similar

* Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or similar

* Experience communicating technical problems and solutions to non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain data pipeline integrations and solutions, incorporating on-premise with highly scalable cloud computing as well as large-scale data stores, including data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure a high standard of quality for the data platform, ranging from operational efficiency to the qualitative accuracy of our data.
  • Maintain technical skills and competencies.
  • Develop and promote standards and best practices.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Information Systems, Statistics, Computer Science, or other relevant education and/or experience and 7 or more years' experience minimum working on Enterprise Systems and/or Data Platforms OR
  • Associate's Degree or other technical degree program in Mathematics, Information Systems, Statistics, Computer Science, or other related program and 9+ years' experience with same as above.
  • Preferred experience in Machine Learning Operations, data warehousing, object-oriented languages, Python, schema design, Azure data engineering, CDC, Databricks, HL7 messaging standards, FHR integrations, or other related experience in similar roles.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $53.05/hr, but your salaried offer will be determined based upon your education and experience.
