The Department of Anthropology at
UNC-Chapel Hill seeks applicants who have a highly productive research and teaching record that focuses on the environment. The hire will be at the rank of distinguished full professor. Advanced associate professors and recently promoted full professors encouraged to apply. Research topic, geographic area, and subdisciplines are open. The ideal candidates should be involved in ethnographic, field or laboratory research with strong evidence of external support and student mentoring. Attractive research programs could focus on human-environment interactions, food systems, landscapes, ecosystem transitions, climate change, environmental justice, indigenous sovereignty and resource use, energy, conservation, water, land, natural resources, fisheries, ecologies of infrastructure, multispecies relations, or other topics of global significance. Evidence of leadership in one's professional field or of administrative experience desired. We anticipate that successful applicants will complement the department's existing faculty profile.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Anthropology at
UNC Chapel Hill fosters an environment where multiple approaches coexist and intersect. We support studies, research, and professional applications in the three subfields of foundational training, Sociocultural Anthropology, Human Biology, Ecology and Evolution; and Archaeology one cross-disciplinary program in Medical Anthropology and a concentration focused on Race, Difference and Power. The goals of this approach are to permit crosscutting research on the part of faculty and students, to encourage engagement with other programs and interdisciplinary units on campus and to allow interest groups to form around particular problems as they emerge. Within this larger, open structure, the department maintains strong collective interest in issues of globalization, nature and the environment, public anthropology, cultural studies and political economy. It also features strong collective interest in the regional study of North America (particularly the southern United States), Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as Europe and Asia (particularly Southeast Asia). None of these interests are exclusive, however, and faculty members work on a variety of topics in a variety of settings. |
Position Summary |
This Distinguished Professor position will teach graduate and undergraduate courses and conduct research in the fields of Anthropology while continuing their own research, participating in departmental service, and mentoring undergraduate/graduate students. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
A PhD in Anthropology or related field and demonstrated excellence in research, teaching and service. Extensive experience teaching at the college level and conducting research. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Ideal candidates will have a distinguished record in the form of publications and other scholarly activity and active ongoing research activities. Candidates should be experienced teachers willing to work closely with undergraduate and graduate students. |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
