Position Summary

Represents CPS Energy Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) and its resources to Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and market counterparties. Follows ERCOT, Texas Reliability Entity (Texas RE), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) guidelines in binding CPS Energy with its load and generation requirements.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Maintain proficiency in all NERC Operating Standards and all ERCOT Nodal Protocols and Operating Guides related to functions for NERC Generator Operators (GOP) and ERCOT Qualified Scheduling Entities (QSE)
  • Adhere to all internal Energy Supply & Market Operations (ESMO) policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all internal Energy Market Risk Management (EMRM) policies and procedures
  • Complete necessary tasks and functions related to the participation and submission of all required data into the ERCOT Day Ahead Market
  • Identify and analyze all relevant weather, market, and operational conditions within the CPS Energy service area and the ERCOT Wholesale Market to support all responsibilities
  • Analyze market, weather, and other data to perform forecasting of next-day and short-term load obligations for native and external customers
  • Analyze various sources of market data to produce short-term market price forecasts to aid in resource commitment and load obligation cost management decisions
  • Identify and analyze data for optimizing generating resource energy and ancillary service revenues
  • Perform functions to meet all targets for providing low-cost, reliable energy to our native load supply customers
  • Analyze short and mid-term bilateral transactions as needed to manage physical and financial positions
  • Analyze market conditions and implement strategies to improve portfolio's financial position
  • Participate in the development and implementation of congestion management activities related to Day Ahead Operations including submission of Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR) strategies in the ERCOT Day Ahead Market to ensure effective hedging management of CPS Energy native load
  • Analyze and support functions for managing all renewable resources within the CPS Energy portfolio, including wind, solar, and energy storage facilities
  • Utilize analysis software and tools to execute strategies related to the ERCOT Day Ahead Market and to conduct day-to-day business
  • Perform all outage coordination and testing for generation and load resources
  • Coordinate activities between various CPS Energy stakeholders, including fuels, risk, compliance, settlements, and real-time operations to ensure effective communications and strategy implementation
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Experience in marketing or operations in the ERCOT Wholesale market or related experience in other Electric RTO/ISO regions
Ability to perform data analytics to support the optimization of power generation assets
Power plant operational experience and/or principle understanding
Ability to support a 10-hour working day, 7-days per week operation schedule, as well as emergency and off-normal procedures
Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in engineering, marketing, economics, power technologies, business, or related field. Equivalent work experience may also be considered.
  • Experience using marketing and/or analytics software and programs such as PCI, OSI, Tableau, and SQL Developer
  • NERC and/or ERCOT certification

Required Certifications
Working Environment
Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equip, telephone, multi-functioning printer & calculator. Ability to travel between business related events. After hrs work will be required.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
