Job Summary

Medical Social Workers enhance the patient's well-being and help meet the basic needs of patients, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of patients who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. Medical Social Workers work in collaboration with physicians, nurses, utilization management, discharge planners, Clinical Case Management, and other Allied Health professionals.

  • Must possess a Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited school
  • Two years of postgraduate experience as a Medical Social Worker (MSW)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have an Associate Clinical Social Work (ACSW) number or be eligible to receive one
  • Demonstrated experience working in Healthcare OR Health & Human Services, including Child Welfare

Department Overview

The Clinical Social Services and Case Management Departments at UC Davis Health have the combined responsibilities of twenty-four-hour hospital-wide Utilization Review, Discharge Planning, TAR, Medicare patient notification letters, initial and concurrent authorizations, and hospital-wide Health Care Management. The Clinical Social Services Department provides comprehensive social services to patients and their family members, who possess a variety of biopsychosocial needs, during their hospitalizations.
