Description

Are you ready to make real contributions to impactful engineering work?

At APL, we tackle the toughest challenges-projects spanning from submarines to spacecraft, UAVs to advanced manufacturing, wearables to autonomous systems. If you're passionate about pushing boundaries and advancing your career while contributing to national defense and NASA initiatives, this is the place for you. If you're pursuing a degree in electrical or computer engineering, we'd love to have you join our team!

We are seeking a talented intern to help us design, analyze, test and deploy pioneering electrical and electromechanical systems. As an intern, you will work alongside and learn from a team of experienced engineers while contributing to exciting projects that support the US Department of Defense and NASA. Our team strives to develop, apply, and maintain deep expertise in electrical engineering and embedded systems.

As a member of our team, you will:

  • Design embedded systems, encompassing both hardware and software systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to capture requirements, design circuits, select components, and validate designs through modeling and simulation.
  • Showcase your work at design reviews and produce crucial documentation for communication, fabrication and operation of your designs.
  • Test, integrate, and deploy your embedded and electrical systems into larger projects
  • Procure hardware to support the assembly and test of your designs
  • Brainstorm innovative solutions to our country's most ambitious problems

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Have experience in the design, test, and development of electrical hardware and software systems through coursework, graduate research, personal projects, or previous work experience.
  • Have experience designing and prototyping electronic circuitry that employs FPGAs, DSP processors, microcontrollers, sensors, and power supplies.
  • Have programming experience in one or more software languages such as C, C++, Python or in hardware description languages such as VHDL or Verilog.
  • Are familiar with modeling and simulation tools like SPICE, MATLAB/SIMULINK.
  • Have experience in the test and measurement of electrical systems via the use of oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, etc.
  • Have excellent communication skills and an ability to document designs and results
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance prior to reporting and ultimately a full Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Are pursuing a dual degree in electrical, computer engineering, or computer science.
  • Are pursuing a Master's degree in electrical or computer engineering
  • Have experience with Linux and real time operating systems.
  • Have an ability to design and simulate analog circuits.
  • Have experience in PCB design and layout (e.g. Altium, Eagle).
  • Have familiarity with low-power microcontrollers, including ARM processors.
  • Have experience in controls or digital signal processing
  • Have experience in programming microcontrollers like STM, ESP, or ARM processors.
