Job Summary
Responsible for the business side management of the My Engineering Life (MEL) team having management responsibilities overseeing the configuration management of wayside signal assets to ensure FRA Regulatory Compliance regarding Test & Inspections and software compliance. The position is responsible for managing the program as it relates to analysis, design, testing, implementation support, planning, budgeting, staffing, documentation, training and compliance for the wayside signal system. There is also extensive involvement interfacing with field management and craft employees to identify issues along with areas to improve efficiency, develop/test solutions with technology, and implementation to production.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities



  • Interfaces with manufacturers, internal departments, and signal field personnel to ensure compliance with FRA Regulations for software compliance and test & inspections using the My Engineering Life (MEL) System.
  • Identifies and leads engineering business process improvement initiatives relating to asset management and configuration management.
  • Facilitates the evaluation of new or modified configuration management items or executive software upgrades.
  • Creates and updates configuration management models and software applications based on test results, vendor bulletins, or internal directives.
  • Maintain asset life cycle and refresh plan for critical signal infrastructure to avoid asset failure and reliability degradation.
  • Complete configuration management audits as required by approved FRA configuration management plan
  • Oversees the development, training, implementation and maintenance of procedures and tools.
  • Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager


Minimum Qualifications



  • Associate's degree/2-year Degree
  • 3 or more years of experience in Signal Engineering


Equivalent Minimum Qualifications



  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 5 or more years of experience in Signal Engineering


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
  • 10 or more years of experience in Signal Engineering
  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience in Signal Engineering


Knowledge and Skills



  • Railroad Industry knowledge
  • CSX Signal Design Standards
  • Communication skills to interact with managers, field level craft personnel and signal design vendors.
  • MicroStation 8
  • Driven with a sense of urgency
  • Prioritization skills. Ability to quickly assess issues and prioritize solutions
  • Microsoft Office skills (especially Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Basic understanding of relational databases and their constraints
  • Operational knowledge on CSX/FRA required test and schedule requirements.

Job Requirements



  • Different shifts as assigned in 24 hour/7 days a week operation (incl working weekends)
  • Wear protective equipment (such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection)
  • Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol
