EHS Specialist
The
Environmental Health & Safety Specialist's main responsibility is to ensure
that the day to day environmental and safety activities are being completed per
the site Environmental Health and Safety Plan. This position will also be
responsible for the coordination of all aspects of safety and environmental
compliance, company training program.

Essential Functions
EH&S
Facilitation, Administration and Site Management
- Support and provide guidance to local performance center(s) assigned.
- Lead the monthly facility safety committee meetings.
- Help complete incident investigations and root cause corrective action.
- Handle all necessary documentation related to injuries including but not limited to near miss, first aid, accident and incident investigations, and reporting.
- Ensure environmental compliance through disposal arrangement, hazardous waste records, wastewater reports, storm water plan, chemical usage reports, air quality reporting, solid waste disposal and fire department business plan.
- Responsible for development and sustaining safety program in facility through goal deployment process.
- Maintain environmental excel spreadsheets such as VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and paint usage logs for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
- Help EHS team analyze EHS data to determine validity and quality.
- Collect samples for SWPPP, Hazwaste and Industrial wastewater.
- Coordinates with such agencies as the South Air Quality Management District, Environmental Protection Agency, Sanitation Districts, Fire Departments, both State and County Health Agencies, Department of Toxic Substance, Cal OSHA, Cal EPA, DOT and other local environmental agencies, as well as administration of programs prescribed by these agencies.
Training, Inspections and Auditing
- Responsible for safety training, coordination, and distribution of all weekly safety training topics for all employees.
- Provide EHS training and orientation new hires employees.
- Ensure safety inspections are completed and track corrective actions to completion.
- Responsible for surveys, safety committees and proper record keeping of all safety events.
- Train
managers/supervisors and leads on GENSUITE software.
EH&S
Metrics and Performance Management
- Successfully deliver continuous improvement for the Performance
Center for the following metrics: Lost Time Incident; OSHA recordables; First Aid and Near Misses. - Successful regulatory audits/inspections; closing action items; completion of all EHS compliance calendar items; completion
of all scheduled inspections.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Computer knowledge and skills, i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and EHS management software such as Gensuite.
- Ability to work independently and high attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required.
- Ability to work effectively, even under pressure.
- Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
- Must have strong initiative and be a self-starter.
- Able to prioritize projects and tasks.
Required Experience and Education
- Bachelor's degree in EHS related field required.
- Prefer minimum of 3 years in environmental and
safety within a manufacturing environment.
