About the role
The Donor Research and Strategy Manager will be critical in enhancing the Museum's fundraising efforts. This role is pivotal in ensuring that detailed, strategic insights and effective management of donor relationships inform our fundraising strategies. The Donor Research and Strategy Manager will provide comprehensive analysis and insights on gift officer portfolios to the Development team and senior leadership, supporting the overall advancement of our fundraising goals. This role is charged with building and maintaining systems to ensure the Development team has the data, research and strategic guidance they need to move donors up the pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Identify, research, and evaluation of new prospects and current donors by reviewing and analyzing databases and numerous internal and external resources, ensuring a robust pipeline of prospects for various fundraising initiatives
- Oversight of the prospect research workflow including drafting, revising, and editing philanthropic research documents, such as background reports, prospect briefings, event research, and biographies.
- Ensure that briefing materials are appropriate for senior leadership and aligned with institutional strategy and key messages.
- Develop dynamic donor portfolios and implement strategies for effectively managing and ensuring alignment with the Museums' priorities
- Provide analysis and insights on the donor portfolio, highlighting trends, opportunities, and challenges to inform strategic decisions for maximizing solicitations
- Lead and systematize data updates and imports into the Tessitura system in support of gift officers and senior leadership.
- Support the moves management strategy of senior leaders, including but not limited to the Museum Director, President & COO, and Chief Development Officer by setting clear goals and benchmarks for prospect advancement.
- Adhere to recognized fundraising and research ethics policies and standards.
- Stay informed on best practices and emerging trends in philanthropy, prospect research, and portfolio management
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising, a nonprofit organization and with donor research.
- Knowledge and understanding of the fundraising cycle and where prospect research fits within that cycle.
- Experience in managing databases and using fundraising software, specifically in creating queries and generating reports; Tessitura experience a plus
- Demonstrated strong research and analytical skills. Ability to investigate an issue, ask thoughtful questions, and recommend possible solutions.
- Self-disciplined, action-oriented style with ability to complete complex projects independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Strong written skills (including editing and proofreading), including the ability to succinctly translate data for fundraisers, senior management, and the board of directors.
- Ability and interest in developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of the Brooklyn Museum's history, culture strategic plan, mission, and vision-as well as the permanent collection, education offerings and public programs
- Ability to develop a deep understanding of the Tessitura constituent relationship management (CRM) system.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with names, financial data, and biographical details.
- Sound judgment and discretion in handling and securing confidential information and adhering to professional ethics.
- Strong collaborative orientation and ability to develop working relationships and communicate with colleagues.
- Creative, resourceful, entrepreneurial mindset, with roll up your sleeves mentality
- Proven experience mentoring and managing a junior team member, including providing guidance, setting clear expectations, and tracking progress, a plus

Salary: $72,134.40
FLSA status: Exempt
Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm; additional night and weekend hours are required during key events. This role will work onsite 3 days a week.
