Job Summary
Elmhurst University invites applicants to join the Adjunct Pool in the Department of Philosophy beginning in the Spring of 2025. The Department has a particular need for applicants with experience teaching Introduction to Philosophy and/or Applied Ethics courses (Business, Biomedical, Environmental, etc.). The present need is also for applicants who can teach in-person. The Department is pluralistic and welcomes applicants from diverse philosophical backgrounds and traditions.
Essential Functions

  • Course preparation.
  • Teaching and grading of assigned courses.
  • Support of undergraduates enrolled in assigned courses.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • MA (or higher degree) in Philosophy.
  • 1 or more years of college-level teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach Introduction to Philosophy and/or Applied Ethics courses (Business, Biomedical, Environmental, etc.).


Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Philosophy.
  • Experience teaching Introduction to Philosophy and/or Applied Ethics courses (at the undergraduate level).
  • Familiarity with Blackboard or a similar Learning Management System.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Work Hours
Occasional evening and weekend obligations.
