Long Term Substitute Teacher (SPED)

An ESS Long-Term substitute teacher assists with classroom instruction in the extended absence of a regular teacher. This person follows and teaches lesson plans, aids students in understanding subject matter, and ensures that regular classroom routines are followed.

Responsibilities



  • Provide meaningful instruction to special education students in assigned classroom while regular teacher is on leave
  • Review and implement regular teacher's routines, procedures, lesson plans, and curriculum objectives
  • Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment
  • Report any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration
  • Perform other duties as directed by school administration



Qualifications Required



  • A Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education teacher licensure in grade and subject area appropriate for the assignment;
  • Sheltered Engligh Immersion Endorsement for core content teachers
  • Ability to work with diverse population;
  • Knowledge of MA Curriculum frameworks, curriculum, instruction, and assessment;
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and response to intervention helpful
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required




Qualifications Preferred



  • Bilingual Spanish
  • Dual certification in ESL and/or Moderate Disabilities
