Job Title Department Dietician III Food Service-Patients (Production and Distribution)
Job Summary The Dietitian III interviews, nutritionally assesses, and counsels patients regarding Therapy in one or more assigned hospital units. Participates in interdisciplinary team conferences, health team rounds, and consultations with medical staff. Develops and implements nutritional care plan. Documents nutritional care given in the medical record. Monitors and evaluates effectiveness and outcome of nutrition care processes. Conducts nutrition education classes. Participate in quality assurance program. Typical Duties *Reviews medical orders for patients diet requirements *Reviews patient's current medical status through patient visitation and diet history, medical chart review, interdisciplinary team conferences, health team records, and consultation with other staff *Conducts nutrition assessments, develops and implements nutritional care plans which appropriately meet age, psychosocial, and physical needs of the patients to ensure that the nutritional requirements are being met, and are in compliance with accrediting agencies and Quality Assurance Standards *Counsels patients and families on therapeutic diet or normal nutrition *Records and maintains appropriateness of nutritional assessments and care provided; documents in medical record *Prepares and submits reports, as required *Conducts patients meal rounds to monitor food intake and evaluate meal services *Visits patients regularly to ensure patients are receiving appropriate nutritional care and to provide follow-up care *Reassess nutrition status/needs for assigned patients and evaluates effectiveness of nutrition therapy for specific age groups and disease state *Conducts nutrition education classes for patients, staff, affiliated students, and serves as a resource person to other health care members *Instructs, supervises and evaluates dietetic students, as assigned *Compiles and develops educational materials
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college of university with a major in Food and Nutrition, Institutional Food Service Management or related discipline (Must provide official transcripts at time of interview)
- Active registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (Must provide proof at time of interview)
- Licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as a Dietitian (Must provide proof at time of interview)
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialty certifications in Nutrition Support and/or Pediatrics (must show proof at time of interview)
- NICU experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics * Knowledge of Quality Improvement methods * Knowledge of diabetes care, diabetes self-management and food and nutrition * Skilled in applying current American Diabetes Association (ADA) standards in patient management * Skilled in delivering information to patients and clinical staff * Ability to apply learned knowledge of modern principles and practices of Medical Nutrition Therapy * Ability to interact and communicate effectively with other members of the Health Care Team for the enhancement of patient care * Ability to teach and conduct in-service trainings * Ability to assess impact of diet on diabetic patients * Ability to prepare education plans for diabetics * Ability to plan and develop nutritional education materials for patients

This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department specific engineering and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital wide policy and departmental procedures.
