Position Senior Controls Technician

Location: Elk Grove Village, IL

The Senior Controls Technician reports to the Plant Engineer and will provide plant wide support for all plant's equipment assets to include troubleshooting, installing electrical systems, control systems and instruments. Position will assist the Plant Engineer in the oversight of various maintenance programs to include training, inventory control, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance execution.

What you'll be doing:

  • Will be required to support and/or lead safety initiatives for department and/or plant. Will be required to perform safety audits and training. Coordinate with the Plant Engineer, Continuous Skills Development (CSD), and Safety pillar teams to manage safety training compliance (i.e. LOTO, arial lift platforms, electrical safety, etc.).
  • Performs PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) control level diagnosis by monitoring PLC programs and installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs major electronic, electrical and mechanical systems and peripheral devices per manufacturer's specification.
  • Understands and follows safety policies and procedures. Performs all tasks safely and does not take risks as it pertains to safety. Leads by example. Identifies safety risks and works to reduce risks in behavior, equipment and processes. Supports all safety practices and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with operations personnel to identify and resolve abnormal or degraded equipment conditions that could negatively impact safety, quality or productivity.
  • Execute electrical maintenance repairs, modifications, emergency repairs, keep maintenance records and completes all necessary documentation.
  • Participates in proactive maintenance activities such as FMEA's, RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action), Analytical Troubleshooting (ATS)
  • Partner with CSD Pillar Team and HR buisness partners to assess and refine ME Element Tree and all associated training documentation for each EE; directly oversee skills-based assessment, placement, and progression initiatives within department.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications.
  • Troubleshoot, install, maintain and repair all facility electrical wiring, components, apparatus, control equipment, solid-state, electrical switchgear, electric motors, electrical-pneumatic control systems, etc.
  • Maintain and repair electrical controls, motors, air compresses, transformers, belts, and other complex electromechanical systems.
  • Assists Plant Engineer in work order planning, assignment, and task oversight across all shifts (CM, PM, PdM, Planned Maintenace). Oversees and inspects work performed by leads, senior technicians, and assistants.
  • Assists Plant Engineer and purchasing department on equipment and electrical parts and creates purchase requisitions for replacement parts. Ensures proper execution of parts/inventory processes, CMMS transactions, critical parts acquisitions, vendor support coordination.
  • Advise Plant Lead Team on planning considerations for CAPEX initiatives and expense-based projects; coordiate directly with Plant Engineer to ensure safe and efficient execution of plant improvement projects.
  • Inspecting, overhauling, lubricating and cleaning motors and controls on electronic and electrical equipment.
  • Perform inspections and cleaning of all electrically and electronically operated equipment.
  • Read and interpret PLC Ladder Logic
  • Ability to understand and interpret P&IDs and schematics.
  • Troubleshoot a full range of 480VAC/120VAC problems.
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC & NFPA 70E requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and program Variable Frequency Drives
  • Troubleshoot 3-phase 480V motors and related control systems.
  • Position will provide plant wide coverage and support all shifts to include weekends as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate degree and 2+ plus years equivalent manufacturing controls experience
  • Previous experience in automation brands, tools and manufacturers of production controls in Siemens Sinamics and other controls such as Allen-Bradley & Rockwell Automation, ABB, Idec, Scheneider Electric, etc.
  • 5+ years in an industrial environment, troubleshooting, repairing, and/or installing manufacturing equipment, including pneumatic and/or hydraulic equipment, and rotating equipment (driven shafts, blowers, fans).
  • Experience with machine shop equipment and welding.
  • Electrical or controls experience a plus for grading up.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects/responsibilities at same time.
  • Able to read prints.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends as needed.
