The Detroitoffice of SmithGroupis looking for aEntry Level Structural Engineer DCto join our team.

Working with us, you will: #Entry



  • Perform basic to slightly more complex structural engineering assignments for projects, applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
  • Assist with engineering tasks for a project, assuring that technical, schedule and production targets are met, while meeting quality standards and applicable professional standards.
  • Perform structural analysis, and design of framing members, systems and connections using structural software and manual calculations under the direct supervision.
  • Interpret design intent and use software in developing BIM models, sketches and drawings.
  • Perform document production for assigned engineering work and document changes to engineering drawings as instructed.
  • Assist in construction contract administration, including field observations as directed.
  • Assist in developing proposal materials as needed.



An ideal candidate has:



  • A bachelor's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering or equivalent. Master's degree in Structural or Architectural Engineering preferred.
  • 1-4 years of professional experience (including summer, co-op or intern work) in the AE field preferred.
  • Passed the Fundamentals in Engineering Examination and is preparing to become licensed, when eligible.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with team members in other disciplines and the ability to communicate ideas verbally and graphically.
  • A solid knowledge of mathematical concepts and the ability to apply principles of logic and scientific thinking to a wide range of problems.
  • Proficiency with CAD, Revit, RAM Structural Systems, RISA, SAP and/or similar Structural Analysis Programs and the Microsoft Office Suite.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $XX,XXXto $XX,XXX annually, at the time of posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the anticipated salary range for this position. Additionally, an employee in this position is eligible for a performance-based bonus on an annual basis.
