Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Recreation and Wellness is located in the Division of Student Affairs, which includes comprehensive recreation and wellness programming including; fitness, aquatics, informal recreation, outdoor adventures, experiential education, competitive sports, nutrition, health promotion/advocacy and well-being education. The Department of Recreation and Wellness provides a variety of programs, services and events, which strive to engage students and others in the UNC Greensboro community in the attainment of healthy lifestyle behaviors that will carry forward throughout their lifespan. With Health and Wellness as a major theme for the University's strategic plan, the Department is expected to provide opportunities that enhance student success.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports, the Coordinator will supervise 40+ student staff as well as a graduate assistant in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive competitive sports program. This position provides student development that reinforces and enhances classroom and academic learning through the application of related theories and employee related skills.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous experience in the promotion, design, development, and administration of a collegiate competitive sports programs. Two (2) year Graduate Assistantship will count towards years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • American Red Cross First Aid/AED/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 30-days of hire).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading sports officials training including flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, & softball. Experience officiating at the extramural, interscholastic, or intercollegiate level(s).
  • Demonstrated budgeting experience.
  • Current involvement in one or more of the following professional organizations: National Intramural & Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA), National Federation High School (NFHS), and/or the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO).
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certification or must obtain within the first 12 months of employment with the expectation to teach department classes.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office and knowledgeable with recreation management software.
