Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist
III for the Department of Metabolomics within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform sample preparation, data acquisition, analysis, data interpretation, and instrument maintenance under the direction of the Manager and the Director of
MSR. Performs work requiring the application of standard techniques and procedures.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
- Extracts metabolites from tissue and other biological samples and prepare LC-MS samples.
- Organizes and keep track of LC-MS samples.
- Performs sample analysis using LC-MS.
- Evaluates the quality of the LC-MS analysis.
- Analyzes LC-MS results and generate data reports.
- Maintains lab databases on instrument use, chemicals, and established protocols.
- Assists MSR Manager and Director in routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as directed.
- Assists users in metabolomics sample preparation.
- Participates in the evaluation of existing procedures suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
- Assists with training fellows, medical students and lab technicians in laboratory techniques as directed.
- Responsible for submitting purchase recommendations to his/her supervisor.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or other relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, OR a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Demonstrated prior experience and/or knowledge of analytical chemistry is required.
- Excellent oral and written skills are required.
- Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Lab environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
