Job Summary |
We are seeking a part-time
TES Animal Technician employee to work in an exciting research lab conducting cutting-edge Alzheimer's, Diabetes and Cancer research. Responsibilities include performing daily tasks related to the care of laboratory rodents (mice, rats etc.) within the animal care unit. Ensuring animal housing and support areas are supplied appropriately for animal care, research and teaching activities. Assist with maintaining standards established by
IACUC and
AAALAC.

Essential Functions |
- Ensuring animal enclosures and containment rooms are kept clean and orderly. Restocking of supplies needed for cleaning rooms and meeting the needs of animal husbandry.
- Receiving and verification of animal order deliveries.
- May perform a variety of animal care related duties including but not limited to feeding, watering, monitoring basic health and behavior, cage changes, recordkeeping, sanitization of enclosures or housing and enrichment equipment and supplies.
- May perform a variety of animal care facility services such as upkeep and maintenance of animal housing areas and corridors to include sweeping, mopping, wiping, disinfection and antimicrobial surveillance testing of floors, tables, walls and equipment.
- May assist with animal health related treatment or research needs on an as needed basis.
- Assists with quality assurance reports and recordkeeping for mechanical or physical plant and equipment.
- May perform a variety of animal support related duties such as laundry and operation of washing and autoclaving machines.
- Adherence and understanding of biosecurity and sanitization protocols and practices including but not limited to wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), stocking of PPE, dilution, mixing and use of various disinfectants and cleaners. Appropriate utilization of biosafety cabinets and hoods.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Animal Care Unit Manager according to departmental needs consistent with or relating to knowledge, skills and abilities presented.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High School diploma or equivalent
Expectations:
- Successfully complete required online training modules upon hire prior to hands-on animal work.
- Ability to follow detailed and routine instructions to complete tasks and procedures.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently and effectively.
- Adherence to Auburn University codes of conduct and ethics as well as protocols and standards for risk management and safety.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to think critically and offer solutions to common problems.
- Adherence to following orders for operations and following chain of command for issue resolution.
- Ability to use basic hand tools or power tools (vacuums, screw drivers, hand-held drill).
- Basic math, reading and writing and computer skills (email, electronic form submission).
- Must be willing and able to communicate with other students, staff, faculty and supervisors.
- All applicants must be 18 years of age or older before May 1st.
