Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a LPN for our office located in Elizabeth City.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Completes paperwork including but not limited to FMLA, disability, Home Health/Hospice, and transfusion orders
  • Screens patients for appropriate information.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Arranges transfusions and hospital admissions upon request
  • Assures appropriate consent has been obtained prior to treatment or procedures
  • Prepares exam rooms including re-stocking of treatment areas.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
  • Arranges for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications of hospital admissions as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of two years experience as a practical nurse (with Central Line Care and IV skills) in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must be willing to travel between offices when needed.
