Job Summary

Provides assistance to the Spirit Head Coach and Associate Head Cheerleader Coach by coaching student athletes, monitoring student athlete academic progress, scheduling, managing travel, and overseeing the discipline, conduct, and image of the student athlete.

  • Assists in the coaching of a spirit program within the framework of policies or affiliated national, regional and state association, Conference, and University rules.
  • Coaches team members individually and in groups to demonstrate dance techniques. Manages a designated skill development area or group of positions as necessary.
  • Recruits quality prospective student-athletes and ensures the timely submission of their academic records for admissions. Participates in recruitment.
  • Works to complete student's development through graduation by assisting with academic needs in conjunction with the Student Athlete Academic Center (SAAC) staff. Establishes requirements for student athletes to ensure successful Academic Progress
  • Attend home Football games, and select home Basketball games.
  • Ensures the athletic department is in compliance with all institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations, including the development and implementation of procedures by which compliance will be determined and documented.
  • Assist with choreography for cheer team.
  • Adhere to all State of Florida, University, NCAA, Conference USA, and department rules and policies pertaining to the position of Assistant Cheerleading Coach. Report any known NCAA Violations or concerns to the director of Athletic Compliance and be responsible for the monitoring of any subordinate as it relates to NCAA regulations.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor assigning duties that are logically related to position.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one (1) year of coaching experience at the high school level or above; OR five (5) years of coaching experience at the high school level or above ; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable with one (1) year of the required experience.
  • For Cheerleader Assistant Coach, Bachelor's degree or equivalent and one year of coaching experience; OR five (5) years of coaching experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
