What your job will be like:

As a detector scientist working on the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) detectors, you will work with scientists, engineers and technicians towards the design and construction of the detector elements. In particular, you will be working on the Si-based tracking system, as well as other tracking detectors, such as MPGD and diamond detectors.

As the Control Account Manager for the EIC Detector Tracking Systems you will lead a team of scientists and engineers from JLab, Brookhaven National Lab (BNL) and multiple domestic and foreign partners to deliver the silicon and micropattern gas tracking detector systems for the ePIC detector.

In this role you will:



  • Perform development of the integrated system for tracking detectors at ePIC.
  • Work with the ePIC detector collaboration, scientists and EIC project in defining requirements, analyzing, procuring, installing, testing and commissioning of tracking detectors and other sub-systems.
  • Support procurement and fabrication of detector components and test assemblies
  • Document work in analysis reports, test reports, and technical notes and provide status and reporting on progress to the EIC project
  • Present results at internal meetings and reviews and appropriate project reviews and technical conferences.
  • Support a scientific EIC research program.

Qualifications we require:

Education



  • PhD. In Physics (HEP, nuclear, materials science) or Electronics Engineering or similar


Experience



  • 5 years from PhD research and postdoctoral (and/or from further job-related) experience with hardware-oriented detector research of interest to nuclear physics or high energy physics


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing (e.g. email, memos, explanations, drawings) and explain work to their supervisor and others in the group
  • Experience with detector simulations , data analysis and Si-based detectors
  • Demonstrated experience with radiation detection methods and measurements


Qualifications We Prefer:


  • Experience in other related fields such as astrophysics or material science
  • Strong interest in working on detector development projects for nuclear physics. Interest in learning project management skills and providing project management for this effort to support the EIC.
  • Strong background of working in collaborative environment
  • Strong understanding of physics requirements for detector development.
