Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a full-time, junior- level GIS, engineering or planning professional proficient in geospatial data analysis and management to provide GIS support for engineering and planning projects in our Raleigh, NC office. This position will be in-person with an option to go to a hybrid schedule at the discretion of team management.

The successful candidate will work with the direction of the GIS Manager and project managers to provide GIS technical services for projects across several of Moffatt & Nichol's business areas.

Moffatt & Nichol's GIS team supports a broad range of engineering and planning projects throughout the country and GIS staff can work and gain experience in many different practice areas aside from GIS-related tasks, according to business needs. Typical non-GIS opportunities involve working on bridge inspection teams and environmental field data collection.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Create cartographic products for permits, reports, presentations and proposals
  • Search for, assess, process and manage data to support GIS and Geospatial projects
  • Perform & document spatial & quantitative analysis as required for project needs
  • Research, analysis and drafting for GIS projects
  • Assists with design, development and input quality control for databases that are tailored to the client's end use
  • Drafts all maps for GIS using related software
  • Aids in developing company GIS standards and provides technical input on all GIS related issues
  • Assists with maintenance and upkeep of installed GIS systems
  • Keeps informed of changing technology for both hardware and software aspects of the GIS field
  • Provides training and work direction to GIS Intern, monitors output. Other duties as assigned
  • Promotes the success of the team through individual initiative, cooperation to achieve common goals and accommodation to change

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Geographic Information Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in a GIS related role, with proven GIS experience.
    • Any additional degree level will be considered as an additional year of experience. (I.e. bachelor's with 1 - 4 years; master's with 0 - 3 years)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand basic data management for GIS data using a Windows operating system
  • Demonstrated proficiency in procuring, assessing and integrating geospatial data
  • Mapping portfolio that demonstrates basic cartographic competency
  • Must be eligible to work on FEMA projects
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
