Job Summary:

The Department of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin provides state-of-the-art care for people afflicted with diseases of the nervous system, conducts research in basic and clinical neuroscience, and offers medical students, residents and fellows intensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.

The Department of Neurology is looking for someone to join our actively growing clinical research team. The candidate will coordinate a variety of industry and PI initiated clinical trials in areas such as; Movement Disorders/Parkinson's, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromuscular disorders, etc.

The Research Nurse will provide a high degree of clinical expertise and professional nursing care, with a specific focus on the discovery and prevention, detection, and treatment of neurological diseases. The candidate will coordinate all aspects of a study, including; enrolling, screening, and consenting for a variety of adult and pediatric neurology clinical studies.


Responsibilities:
Assists in research logistic management, screens study participants, and provides participant information and clinical care according to established research plans to ensure accuracy of research.

  • 15% Secures and schedules logistics for clinical research projects according to the research plan
  • 15% Assists in the recruitment and screening of subjects for clinical studies by conducting physical health assessments
  • 15% Provides professional nursing care to patients according to established protocols
  • 10% Provides appropriate treatment plan direction and information to study participants
  • 10% Serves as main point of contact and liaison to project participants, investigators, research sponsors, and the research team delivering study information in accordance with established research project standards and protocols
  • 15% Collects, verifies, and enters data into database and analyzes clinical information data
  • 10% Serves a primary point of contact for emergent study participant situations related to adverse effects or complications of the study
  • 5% May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
  • 5% Supervises the day-to-day activities of research work unit

Biology, Medical or Social Sciences, or related field preferred


Qualifications:

Knowledge / Skills Required:
- Interest in clinical research and / or experience in an academic clinical setting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Interpersonal communications, ability to effectively interact with participants, faculty and staff
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Project management experience
- Data collection and / or processing

Knowledge / Skills Preferred:
- At least 1 year of experience in clinical research studies
- At least 1 year of nursing experience
- Experience with UW systems
- Experience working in healthcare setting
- Knowledge of clinical research principles and regulations
- Experience with IRB
- Clinical Research Certification or Clinical Research Nurse Certification
- Supervision experience
- Experience with data entry


License/Certification:

Required
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure
Current RN License for the State of Wisconsin eligible


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship.
