Senior Reliability/Maintenance Engineer

As a maintenance engineer at Portland General Electric's (PGE) westside hydro plants you'll be responsible for ensuring that the plant's systems and equipment are functioning properly and efficiently. This includes planning, designing, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and improving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems. As a plant maintenance engineer you will also coordinate with other engineers, technicians, operators, and managers to optimize the plant's performance and meet the production goals and quality standards.

Responsibilities for this role cover a wide range of duties including regular inspections and audits to identify and resolve any issues or defects, developing and implementing maintenance plans to ensure the safety of operations, evaluating and recommending new technologies to improve efficiency and productivity, preparing and managing budgets, contracts, and reports for engineering projects, providing technical support and guidance to staff and contractors on engineering matters, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, regulations, and policies.

This challenging and exciting role will require a combination of technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills to perform the job effectively. A strong understanding of engineering principles and practices and the ability to use various tools, software, and equipment related to the plant's systems and processes. The ability to analyze data, troubleshoot problems, and find solutions to optimize the plant's performance will also serve valuable. Interpersonal skills are essential for this engineering role as there is need to communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with different stakeholders. Finally, they should also be aware of health, safety, and environmental standards and regulations for the plant's operations.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards: All Engineering Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and provides guidance and direction on engineering processes and standards to colleagues when requested across generation, substation, transmission and/or distribution assets.

Engineering Standards: Reliability Supports reliability improvements with extended knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other reliability-based improvement programs; provides technical guidance and support to other engineers. Facilitates detailed RCM analysis using multidisciplinary internal teams (civil, mechanical and/or electrical) and outside consultants as necessary.

Engineering Production: All Engineering Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects; coordinates multiple-discipline activity.

Engineering Production: Reliability Develops equipment design changes and new equipment to identify potential failure modes and optimize design, cost and reliability. Develops maintenance strategy that improves reliability and minimizes downtime.

Leads investigations to determine root causes of events and recommends corrective actions to prevent recurrence of the same or similar events, minimize plant downtime and improve safety and human performance; negotiates and obtains acceptance from supervisors and managers within different PGE departments that must implement the corrective actions.

Project Coordination: All Engineering Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects, including representing the team to interdepartmental and external (regulatory) stakeholders.

Project Coordination: Reliability Leads, plans, develops and coordinates reliability initiatives, projects and corrective action; provides accurate capital budget and job estimates.

Knowledge Sharing: All Engineering Serves as a technical specialist and provides consultation/guidance to project teams in a specialized practice area; actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring; implements resource-management strategy.

Knowledge Sharing: Reliability Develops training content on new reliability standards and initiatives; trains internal stakeholders and less-experienced colleagues on new reliability standards; provides technical training to department and company through internal training program.

Education/Experience/Certifications

Education Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or power engineering or other applicable engineering degree. ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.

Experience Typically five or more years in engineering or four or more years in a related field with PE license.

Certifications, Licenses and Training Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role. CMRP, CbM/PdM certifications.

Compensation Range:

$96,300.00 - $189,875.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
