Job Function Summary

As a Monitoring & Diagnostic Engineer in the power generation industry, you will be tasked with ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of power generation equipment through real-time monitoring and advanced diagnostic techniques. You will deploy and maintain monitoring systems to track the operational status of various components, analyze performance data to identify anomalies or potential issues, and perform in-depth diagnostics to resolve complex technical problems. Your role will involve collaborating with operation, maintenance, and engineering teams to develop and implement corrective actions, conducting detailed analyses, and recommending improvements to enhance system efficiency and prevent downtime. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining the stability and efficiency of power generation operations, ensuring both safety and operational excellence.

  • Performs equipment monitoring, field support, data analytics and application of engineering fundamentals to prevent and identify equipment failures.

  • Monitors and understands equipment performance, identify, evaluate, and communicate operational risks to plant including corrective action recommendations.

  • Mentors less experienced engineers.

  • Leads activities such as budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting, work order management, in support of engineering projects.

  • Evaluate and analyze process variables to identify status and trending of key operating parameters.

  • Optimize station equipment operation to meet key performance indicators

  • Innovate and continuously explore state of the art technology

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for thermal performance and system health

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards: All Engineering Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and discerns the need for and provides guidance and direction to colleagues on engineering processes and standards across generation, substation, transmission and/or distribution assets.

Engineering Standards: Monitoring & Diagnostics Develops enterprise solutions for the application of remote monitoring solutions to assist assets and asset owners with an evaluation of asset health to support safe operation.

Engineering Production: All Engineering Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects, including establishing work plans to be applied.

Project Coordination: All Engineering Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on complex projects, representing the team to internal and external stakeholders (i.e., regulatory, technical society, etc.).

Project Coordination: Monitoring & Diagnostics Leads cross-functional monitoring, diagnostics, and performance analytics projects and complex initiatives and deliverables.

Knowledge Sharing: All Engineering Actively advances knowledge management of the enterprise and provides mentoring; participates in professional societies and technical committees and may assist with code/standard authoring; is externally recognized in the industry as a technical expert; reviews engineering work, resolves resource conflicts and identifies training needs.

Education/Experience/Certifications

Education:

Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or power engineering or other applicable engineering degree. ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.

Experience:

Typically eight or more years in engineering.

Certifications, Licenses and Training:

Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role. CMRP, CbM/PdM certifications. Vibration certifications (CAT I or CAT II).

  • Advanced understanding of Power Plant processes and equipment and the interrelationships between them.

Functional Competencies: Monitoring & Diagnostics

  • Advanced knowledge of Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR), first principle thermodynamic modeling, fundamental knowledge of vibration analysis, dissolved gas analysis (DGA) and/or hydro/wind/thermal operations. Ability to visualize data in multiple formats such as MS Excel, PI, Tableau or other BI tools.

Compensation Range:

$96,300.00 - $189,875.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
