Performs MRI procedures and related techniques to produce diagnostic images for physician interpretation. May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts and weekends and call as necessary to provide quality patient care at assigned site(s). May be required to flex hours/shift as needed to support the needs of the department. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team, serving on committees and participating in projects as requested.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs procedures or examinations under the order of a licensed medical practitioner for diagnostic interpretation.
- Prepares patient for procedures.
- Provides patient instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
- Applies principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others.
- Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results.
- Positions the patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability, safety and comfort.
- Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination.
- Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
- Performs venipuncture, starts and maintains venous access.
- Prepares and administers contrast media.
- Verifies consent/screening form.
- Uses appropriate scripting, barriers and identifiers.
- Assists the physician with interventional procedures.
- Practices aseptic technique and observes universal precautions.
- Evaluates images and data for technical quality.
- Manipulates and reconstructs digital data for display, ensuring proper identification is evident.
- Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
- Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, archives and submits images for physician review and interpretation.
- Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
- Provides practical instruction to partners and students.

Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited radiography program Experience as an MRI Technologist preferred, but not required Certification and LicensureARRT Radiography registration required ARRT MRI registration required (or must be obtained within two years of hire) Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
