SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a Morgue Technician to join our team. This position is casual, with no guaranteed hours or benefits.

The Morgue Technician performs daily activities in the morgue, including but not limited to: intake processing, releases of decedents, inventory of decedent belongings, coordination of disposition arrangements, coordination of viewings, and answers questions from staff and families, and coordinates care of decedents.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Performs intake processing of decedents in the morgue
  • Inventories belongings of decedent
  • Coordinates autopsies for decedents
  • Coordinates storage and disposition of fetal remains
  • Coordinates viewings of decedent in the morgue
  • Coordinates disposition of surgically removed limbs
  • Communicates with and educates Hennepin Healthcare team members regarding the death protocol
  • Responds to questions and inquiries from Hennepin Healthcare team members and families of decedents
  • Provides culturally appropriate post-mortem care for families
  • Maintains morgue equipment, including cleaning, decontamination/sterilization of instruments
  • Maintains morgue supplies including ordering and restocking of linens, PPE, consumables, and specialized chemicals
  • Collects, packages, and prepares biohazardous waste and linen for pick up
  • Communicates and collaborates with outside agencies, such as funeral homes/directors, law enforcement agencies, donor agencies and procurement personnel, transport services, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Work Experience:



  • High school diploma or equivalent


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 2 year degree in Healthcare Administration, Health and Human Services, or related field
  • 2 years of healthcare experience
  • Experience with medical terminology and electronic health record systems


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of communication (verbal and written), conflict, interdisciplinary collaboration, management, creative problem solving, and critical thinking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Demonstrates flexibility via an ability to adapt to changing priorities and regulations
  • Basic knowledge of Epic application
  • Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office
