Electric Boat Shore Facilities Engineering Services (Department 701 located at SUBASE Groton, CT) is seeking an Engineer with a background in architecture, civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering. The ideal candidate will have experience in engineering and project management related to all building systems with an extensive portfolio demonstrating leadership, proficiencies and experience with new construction, rehabilitation, and modernization projects.

The successful candidate will manage the completion of projects and programs impacting the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appearance of government facilities located at naval bases in Australia, Washington, Groton, Norfolk, Kings Bay, Bangor, San Diego, Pearl Harbor, and Guam.The candidate must be knowledgeable in what commercial facility drawings should consist of and what should be on the drawings to successfully construct a project to be issued to local and regional NAVFAC commands. Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools for the following: existing trainer/classroom demolition, trainer facility outfitting (including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection layout), and trainer installations for use by commercial contractors.

The candidate must encompass highly developed leadership and decision-making skills under restricted deadlines. Extensive communication with architects, government officials regarding new projects, governing codes, invoices, and meetings. In addition to interface with senior level management at UWSTR, Submarine Learning Center (SLC) and host training commands.

This position requires travel.



Qualifications

Required:

    Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • 1-3 years commercial and government facility design and/or engineering experience.
  • Ability to effectively read facilities construction drawings.

Preferred:

  • Previous on-site construction management experience managing multiple contractors.
  • Basic understanding of applicable government regulations and instructions.
  • Familiarity with commercial building codes is a plus.


Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft programs including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial mechanical, structural, electrical and ventilation systems, with practical knowledge of the construction processes used in these areas.
  • Ability to understand submarine systems or simulators to operate in the commercial environment.
  • Understanding of AutoCAD practices.
