Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine the Trauma Education/Outreach Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the training, educational activities at SBUH and SBU, as well as outreach throughout the Suffolk County region .Under the direction of the Medical Director and Program Manager of the Trauma Center, this role will communicate essential updates to our network of EMS partners and coordinate local and regional trainings to improve the overall care provided to trauma patients. This role is an essential component of our Level 1 ACS and DOH verification and is a substantial community responsibility.

Duties of a Trauma Education/Outreach Coordinator may include the following but are not limited to:



  • Design and develop training plans and coordinate course logistics. Prepare and maintain all training documentation. Track progress of educational requirements for all regulatory/verification surveys.
  • Teaches regional training, leads community outreach and professional development opportunities throughout the region as part of our level 1 responsibilities. This includes courses such as PHTLS, RTTDC, Helicopter training, and Trauma resuscitation.
  • Coordinates pre-hospital activities and care integration both internally and externally with our County partners.
  • Work closely with the injury prevention coordinator on community outreach and outside agency efforts.
  • Promote Trauma Center and act as program resource for system development.
  • Work collaboratively to develop hospital and trauma center policies and procedures.



Qualifications

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Certified Paramedic or RNs with prior pre-hospital trauma employment to be considered.
  • At least 5 years of training/instructor experience, good depth of knowledge of pre-hospital activities, EMS system, disaster preparedness, and clinical needs of a trauma center.
  • Ability to communicate well, both in writing and verbally, and to understand how diverse professionals learn is critical for success.
  • Proficiency in applications such as Word, Excel and Power point required.



Preferred:



  • Critical care certification and BLS/ACLS instructor certification preferred.
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support Instructor certification Preferred.
  • New York State Certified Instructor Coordinator certification preferred.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).


Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $ 52.00 - 64.00 / hour.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
