Job Summary

Applicants are being sought for phlebotomist openings at the Drexel University Center for Weight, Eating, and Lifestyle Science (WELL Center) under the mentorship of Erica LaFata, PhD. Dr. LaFata's research examines how the modern food environment contributes to problematic eating behaviors and obesity. Specifically, she assesses whether ultra-processed foods may be capable of triggering addictive biological and behavioral responses and adapts evidence-based interventions for substance-use disorders to help individuals decrease ultra-processed food intake. Certified phlebotomist technicians (CPTs) are needed to support Dr. LaFata's NIH-funded study: Project Response (in-person in Philadelphia). The specifics of the position are detailed below. Ideal candidates exhibit excellent communication, attention to detail, and organization. Dr. LaFata's lab provides a training environment rich in intellectual stimulation, collaboration, and mentorship.

Essential Functions



  • Follow blood drawing protocol by practicing safe and clean blood drawings.
  • Draw blood from participants (1 time at baseline appointments, 4 times at food consumption assessments).
  • Use a finger prick kit two times per food consumption assessment (training will be provided).
  • Operate a centrifuge to spin blood (training will be provided).
  • Aliquot blood plasma into eppendorf tubes and store in the -80-degree freezer (training will be provided).


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 Months of experience
  • Certificate of Phlebotomy Technician, willing to operate a centrifuge to spin blood samples and aliquot blood samples (training will be provided).


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience using a centrifuge and past experience using a pipette.


Physical Demands



  • Typically standing, walking.

Additional Information

This is a part-time Per Diem position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is dependent upon internal equity and the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience.
