SC Johnson Lifestyle Brands / People Against Dirty is seeking an HR Manager for our manufacturing facility, located on the South Side of Chicago in the historic Pullman District and lovingly nicknamed, the South Side Soapbox (SSSB). This role reports into the Sr. Director, Human Resources of North America Lifestyle Brands (based in San Francisco), with a dotted line reporting relationship into our Manufacturing + Supply Chain Director (based at the SSSB), and is a challenging and exciting opportunity to lead human resources in a mission-based, values-driven, non-union manufacturing environment ensuring that people remain at the heart of what we do. This role is responsible for the leadership and development of the P+E team, also located at the SSSB, and is member of the Plant Leadership Team. This role is challenged with continuing to translate our fun, smart, collaborative culture to a manufacturing environment and design and implement people programs that promote safety, engagement, and career growth.
Key responsibilities and deliverables include - but not limited to - the following HR areas: employee relations & engagement, talent acquisition & onboarding, talent management, leadership development, organizational culture & change management, inclusion & diversity, performance management, workforce planning and compensation.

Office requirement: 5 days a week in-office

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Culture + Environment
Lead development, execution of HR strategy in the SSSB that creates a culture that supports safety, trust, respect, ownership, engagement, great performance and a commitment to growth and development; on-brand ideas to surprise and delight our ~300 employees + ~75 temporary employees Cultivate, facilitate and maintain strong cross-functional collaboration and partnership within the SSSB and between our Chicago and San Francisco locations, as well as with SCJ HR HQ + other manufacturing sites; come up with ways to help people connect and build relationships and processes that are sustainable
Recruiting, Onboarding + Talent Management
Lead Operations Technicians (aka our Mover + Makers) hiring strategy and adapt to unique needs of SSSB location + mission to hire locally, while still meeting the demands of the business Partner with all office role hiring managers to ensure that we attract and hire top talent; oversee and participate in all phases of recruiting and be on the lookout for ways to improve our processes to be more effective and efficient Lead + provide strategic counsel on onboarding for the SSSB; ensure new hires are trained on our culture and values (how we do things around here) as well as their roles and responsibilities (what they do) Lead the annual performance management + career planning processes to support open and honest feedback on performance as well as robust development plans for all people against dirty; connect individuals with training + development opportunities to support their growth plan; ensure all training + development investments are directly linked to the needs of the business Hire, train and coach excellent People Leaders; hold them accountable to the highest standard of leadership
Employee Relations + Compliance
Build a trusting, genuine 1:1 relationship with all people against dirty at the SSSB so they feel comfortable coming to you when they have a question or need support; demonstrate exceptional listening and perceiving skills and be fair, consistent and solutions-focused in every interaction Ensure that our commitment to transparency and engaging each and every person in the day-to-day execution of our strategy is upheld across the business; lead change management planning and execution as needed Own the SSSB employment policies + handbook - it's important that our policies are relevant, easy to understand and written in our brand voice; partner with leaders to address day-to-day issues as they arise including: education on and clarification of policies and procedures, safety violations and disciplinary actions Provide subject matter expertise to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations and company policies in the areas of FMLA/medical leaves, immigration, labor/employment, safety and training, payroll + benefits and employee record retention
People Operations Administration
Oversee all aspects of people operations administration for the Chicago location:
Offer great customer service to the People Against Dirty; ensure the data integrity and usability of our payroll and HRIS database and online time tracking system Manage, analyze and advise on insights, trends + best practices on local compensation + benefits
Crisis management, as appropriate
Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:
7+ years of Human Resources leadership experience 5+ years' experience with non-exempt workforce developing and implementing policies and practices 2+ years experience managing people + proven cross-functional influence, partnership + leadership Bachelors' degree Must be authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without sponsorship
Preferred:
Experience in a fast-paced, mission-based, entrepreneurial environment and in union and non-union manufacturing environments Experience within the CPG/FMCG industries Strong time management skills, successful relationship building with diverse clients, attention to detail / accuracy, willingness to make informed decisions, sense of urgency and being able to quickly adapt from one situation to the next Experience and/or ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple priorities Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, able to perform well in a team environment and resolving/diffusing sensitive issues with assigned client groups Demonstrated ability to lead and manage others through influence and collaboration Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with senior level managers and directors Familiarity with HRIS systems or similar large database Strong knowledge of HR laws and regulations in the United States Having a people-centric, curious and customer service mindset
