About the role:
The Insurance Director will develop and manage the company's comprehensive corporate risk management/insurance program with a concentration on risk identification, risk transfer and risk mitigation techniques. This position will work closely with external brokers, the People Office, corporate safety, risk, legal, and finance functions to implement and maintain risk management policies and procedures to protect company's assets and minimize exposure. The Director of Insurance will oversee the activities of the captive insurance company and its interactions with regulators.

This role has an in office requirement.

What you will be doing:

Insurance Program Management:

  • Design, implement, and manage the company's global insurance programs, including property, casualty, auto, workers' compensation, D&O, cyber, and professional liability, and other relevant lines of coverage.

  • Negotiate with insurance brokers and carriers to obtain the most favorable terms, conditions, and coverage.

  • Provide recommendations to senior leaders regarding decisions needed to balance the appropriate levels of coverage and cost to the organization.

  • Ensure newly acquired business operations are equipped with the appropriate coverage at the appropriate cost, in a timely manner post-acquisition.

Claims Management:

  • Oversee the administration of insurance claims, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, investigation, and resolution.

  • Work closely with legal and finance teams to manage claims disputes and litigation, as necessary.

Policy and Procedure Development:

  • Develop, update, and enforce risk management policies and procedures in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure team members are aware of and adhere to risk management policies and procedures.

Captive Insurance Management:

  • Manage daily activities of captive insurance company including handling of premiums, claims, new programs and approval of payments.

  • Review loss runs and capital/reserve adequacy of company.

  • Partner with lines of business to identify opportunities to offer relevant services to their clients.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and present regular risk management reports to senior leadership.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to risk assessments, incidents, and mitigation efforts.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal, finance, operations, and insurance teams, to manage risks effectively.

  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, industry bodies, insurance brokers, carriers and external consultants as needed.

  • Serve as subject matter expert in client or vendor contract negotiations requiring insurance.

  • Perform due diligence on M&A targets.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging risks in the industry.

  • Continuously improve risk management processes and strategies to enhance the company's risk resilience.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree a plus.

  • Professional certification in risk management or insurance (e.g., CRMP, FRM, PRM, CERA, CPCU) strongly preferred.

  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in risk management and insurance, with a focus on global operations.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective risk management strategies and action plans that have translated into tangible results.

  • Strong understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and tools.

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Ability to travel internationally.
