Position Highlights Facilities Management is looking for an experienced Carpenter to join our team. Specifically, we are looking for experienced and versatile carpenter who is able to follow University design standards, policies, and procedures in a professional manner while ensuring quality workmanship, a clean and safe environment, and positive customer relations.
The ideal candidate will possess confidence and enthusiasm for the carpentry trade; and will have a good working knowledge of all aspects of the craft that will enable them to make sound decisions at the job site.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Constructs, repairs, restores and installs structures such as floors, doors, steel stud walls, drywall, windows, stairways, furniture, cabinets, shelves, and roofs.
  • Operates and performs preventative maintenance on hand and power saws, planers, lathes, joiners, shapers, drills, sanders and a variety of hand tools.
  • Installs locks, knobs, hinges, closures, and other fixtures to structures
  • Cleans equipment, shop area, and work site area.
  • Maintains and operates state vehicles according
    to State Motor Vehicle regulations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the commercial carpentry trade.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Journeyman level position. Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in estimating time and material requirements of work projects assigned.
  • Experience in commercial cabinet and casework fabrication and installation.
  • Experience with computer data entry and software such as MS Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Experience in hanging drywall, tape and texture.
  • Experience in Acoustical ceiling grid installation and ceiling tile.
