Job Description

Danfoss in Tallahassee, FL is searching for a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join the team. This role offers hands-on experience in mechanical design, testing, and software development. The Intern will assist in the design and upgrade of test rigs and instruments (both 3D and 2D), support the commissioning and validation of new test rigs, participate in compressor testing activities, build and upgrade data acquisition units, and analyze test data. The intern will also assist with coding in C++, Java, LabVIEW, and Python. This internship is expected to begin in October 2024, targeting to extend until the end of 2025.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.



  • 3D and 2D Drawings: Sort and create 3D and 2D drawings for test rigs and instruments.
  • Thermodynamic calculations and simulations: using REFPROP and MATLAB to simulate and sizing the pipe, valves, pumps and heat exchangers.
  • Commissioning and Validation: Assist in commissioning and validating new test rigs or upgrades, including system leak checks and fixes, instrument and device communication, test software function verification, heat-rejection chiller operation, and Turbocor compressor test operation.
  • Documentation: Create folders and organize them with as-built documents to standardize test rig information.
  • Spare Parts Management: Set up a system for managing test rig spare parts and assist with purchasing, receiving, and shipping spare parts.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Prepare and upgrade SOPs for test rig and data acquisition system operations and facilitate training for the lab operation team.
  • Software Tools: Create software tools for test data standardization, processing, and report automation
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and orderly workplace.
  • Understanding and complying with quality policy, procedures and instructions to ensure product quality, customer satisfaction, attainment of business goals and environmental well-being.

The ideal candidate possesses these skills.



  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with junior status or higher
  • Availability and commitment to work onsite from October 2024 to the end of 2025; 40 hours per week during the summer and at least 20 hours per week during the semesters.
  • Working knowledge of 3D and 2D CAD design software (Siemens NX, CATIA, Creo).
  • Proficiency in thermodynamic calculations and simulations using MATLAB and REFPROP.
  • Experience with the MS Office suite.
  • Candidates must be located within 50 miles of the work site.
  • Well-organized and detail oriented.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A solid track record of performance.
  • An ongoing desire to learn and seek out new information.
  • Copper pipe soldering skills are preferred.
