The University of Virginia Division of Student Affairs invites applications for two Student Affairs Fellows. The University's mission to develop engaged citizen-leaders is the foundation of the Division of Student Affairs work, which is guided by six core values - academic rigor, diversity and inclusion, health and wellness, honor, public service, and student self-governance. The Division consists of over 200 employees all working together, for and alongside students, to create the distinctive student experience for which UVA is known.
The Student Affairs Fellows are full-time positions created to provide professional staff experience in a fast-paced higher education environment to recent University graduates. As a staff member in the Division of Student Affairs, the Fellows work on programs and initiatives related to building community and belonging, while carrying out essential duties related to the activities of the unit or sub-unit in which they are hired into. Night and weekend work will be required, with the potential for a non-traditional (outside 8am-5pm) schedule. Candidates should share the specific position(s) they have interest in within their Cover Letter. Position #1 - Student Engagement Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement, this position is responsible for coordinating and implementing a marketing and communications strategy which shares the story of the unit, encourages engagement in events/traditions by students, and helps connect students and student organizations to resources. This role will also support unit programming efforts in Newcomb Hall and 1515 on the Corner. Key Responsibilities
Position #2 - Fraternity and Sorority Life Reporting to the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, this position plays a crucial role in the advisement of the fraternity and Sorority community on Grounds. The role also helps with developing programming, tracking educational program participation, and marketing efforts. Key Responsibilities
Other duties as assigned may include duties as assigned by supervisors, deans or senior VPSA (Vice President for Student Affairs) staff. Fellows will be expected to help with unforeseen priorities that emerge in the Division of Student Affairs unit where they are hired. Fellows may be asked to assist the agency or State government in an emergency declaration by the Governor. Physical Requirements: These roles are primarily sedentary, however occasionally moving/lifting items more than 40 pounds is necessary. All Fellow roles may work outside of the normal business day (8am-5pm) as well as nights and weekends as needed. Position and Application Information: These positions are term-limited with an anticipated start date in August of 2024 and a firm end date of June 30th, 2025. At the end of the appointment, the Fellow must submit a written summary report of accomplishments, including recommendations for current and future initiatives. Candidates are encouraged to have complete applications submitted to the UVA job board byJuly 19, 2024, though positions will remain open until filled. The non-negotiable salary for these roles is an annual equivalent of $43,888, or $844 per week. Selected applicants will pass a background check.
