Position Highlights The Plant-Soil-Environment Lab is seeking a talented and motivated candidate.

The ideal candidate will conduct laboratory research and plant-based experiments under field and controlled conditions, organize and conduct field campaigns in desert landscape, collect data, operate and maintain lab equipment, and train students. This role will involve collaboration with researchers from diverse backgrounds (e.g. bioinformatics, soil health, microbial ecology) and thus, experience in translating concepts between disciplines is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Field Activities:

  • Organize and conduct field campaigns in a hot desert landscape
  • Assist with planting and harvesting, as well as with the collection of soil samples
  • Maintain detailed records of field data
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines while working in the field
  • Controlled Environments activities:
  • Assist with conducting plant research experiments
  • Assists
    with experimental design, including identifying the appropriate methods
    and helping set up and validating the experimental protocols
  • Assists with all greenhouse maintenance, including tasks such as planting, harvesting, watering, and equipment maintenance

Research activities:

  • Preparing plant and soil samples for various analyses
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental protocols, data, and analysis performed
  • Report of annotated data to the project lead, including statistical analyses

Laboratory Maintenance activities:

  • Assist with the upkeep of lab equipment
  • Assist with student training

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Proficiency in using single- and multi-channel pipette, sterile technique, making solutions
  • Demonstrated capacity to troubleshoot issues and develop innovative analysis methods
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively
  • Knowledge of statistical methods
  • Ability to effectively communicate with researchers and students from diverse backgrounds
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience in translating concepts between disciplines is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of relevant plant research experience both in field and/or under controlled conditions
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques is preferred
  • Leadership and management experience is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Plant Sciences, Environmental Science or related field (at the time of appointment)
