Part-Time Visiting Faculty Position in Environmental Social Science Description The Department of Environmental Studies at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a visiting part-time faculty position to teach 2 sections of our Introduction to Environmental Social Science course (ENVS 118 Environmental Perspectives) during the Spring semester to begin in January 2025. The Department of Environmental Studies is committed to providing support and mentorship of our visiting faculty to ensure future success within their chosen career path. The successful candidate will be provided with mentorship in the introductory environmental social science course. There are no required service or scholarship expectations in this position. The Department of Environmental Studies at Holy Cross is a new, growing, interdisciplinary department that consists of faculty that span the breadth of the environmental natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The Environmental Perspectives course (ENVS 118) introduces students to the interdisciplinary field of environmental studies, which examines the diverse relationships between humans and the natural and constructed worlds in which they live. This course will examine the complex ways that we think about what constitutes "nature" and "environment" and how humans do and should relate to these categories. It will then provide an overview of the emergence of environmental challenges as a topic of concern in the United States and globally as well as encourage students to engage with contemporary environmental challenges. We will place special emphasis on questions of how axes of difference (class, race, ethnicity, nationality, etc.) intersect with environmental change, using social justice as a core lens through which we will define, describe, and analyze impacts of and solutions to environmental challenges. Integrating approaches from the social sciences, the course will provide students with essential background for engaging in subsequent Environmental Studies courses - and for living in a rapidly changing world. Qualifications Candidates must demonstrate commitment to, and excellence in, undergraduate teaching as informed by current practice and scholarship in the field. Application Instructions Please submit a letter of application, current curriculum vitae, a statement on teaching philosophy and interests, graduate transcripts (Ph.D. preferred), and two confidential letters of recommendation. In your cover letter, in addition to describing your teaching philosophy and interests, please address the ways you might contribute to and further the College's mission as a Jesuit, undergraduate liberal arts college (seehttp://holycross.edu/mission) and its core commitment to diversity and inclusion. Previous experience teaching, mentoring, or advising diverse student populations is an asset. For more information, please visithttp://holycross.edu/diversity.
