The Department of Environmental Protection is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented person to become an Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for drafting departmental orders that outline identified violations, necessary corrective actions, control measures or devices to be implemented, and deadlines for their completion. Additionally, you will organize and lead enforcement conferences or administrative hearings, provide relevant case background information, clarify Departmental Orders, Consent Orders and Agreements, and Consent Assessment of Civil Penalties, while addressing any inquiries. You may also be required to serve as an expert or material witness in enforcement matters before District Magistrates, the Environmental Hearing Board, or in court. Furthermore, you will assist in training field personnel on negotiation techniques for settling enforcement cases, proper procedures for determining penalties, and the interpretation and application of water quality regulations, policies, and procedures related to enforcement. Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans and specifications, as well as applying rules and policies to develop sound technical analyses, is essential, along with effective oral and written communication skills.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires the possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
