JOB TITLE: Scheduler

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for scheduling up to 50-70 cases per day and will work to fill every open room and open space on the schedule. He/She will be an integral part of our Front Desk Team and will be valued and a high-profile member of our organization.

* Scheduling: A scheduler coordinates proc edures and surgeries within the time constraints of a n ASC enviro n ment.
* Managing cancellations: A scheduler manages cancellations and finds alternatives as needed.
* Communicating: A scheduler communicates with physician offices, patients , staff and health care professionals about surgery or procedures.
* Maintaining records: A scheduler obtains and organizes patient demographics f or insurance information and specia l surgical needs for surgeries.
* Working with multiple systems: A scheduler may use multiple systems and applications to schedule surgeries and procedures.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Administrator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Counseling patients and scheduling surgeries for multiple physicians.
2. Schedule surgeries and work with primary care physicians on a daily basis to ensure each patient has their history and physicals completed prior to surgery.
3. Complete all necessary paperwork for each procedure on the physicians' schedule.
4. Pre - certify any procedures on the schedule that require pre-certification.
5. Must be capable of multi-tasking and working with a diverse patient population.
6. Provide back up s upport for the Front Office as needed.
7. Other duties as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School

2 years of previous experience scheduling surgeries and/or procedures

Experience with a variety of insurances

Understands medical terminology and is comfortable navigating a clinical environment.

KNOWLEDGE:

1. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.

2. Knowledge of computer systems, programs and spreadsheet applications.

3. Knowledge of medical terminology and be familiar with scheduling software.

SKILLS:

1. Skill in gathering and repo rting claim information.
2. Skill in solving utilization problems.
3. Skill in written and verbal communication and customer relations.
4. Experience in a medical office as a scheduler .
5. Fast and accurate data entry .
6. Service oriented, patient demeanor .
7. Ability to multi-task, manage time effectively, and deliver results .
8. Strict attention to detail .
9. Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel .

ABILITIES:

1. Ability to work effectively with medical staff and physician offices .
2. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
3. Ability to deal courteously and professionally with internal and external customers.
4. Ability to provide excellent customer service

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Fast-paced office environment with heavy telephone work. Occasional late day finishing tasks.
