POSITION SUMMARY: Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell (ENMU-Roswell) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor to join our team. The EMS Instructor will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and training to students pursuing careers in emergency medical services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in EMS, excellent teaching skills, and a passion for student success. This position reports to the EMS Program Director.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on instruction for various EMS courses, including but not limited to EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and Paramedic programs.
- Prepare course materials, syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments in alignment with ENMU-Roswell and industry standards.
- Facilitate classroom and laboratory learning experiences, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, practical exams, and written tests, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and grades.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in EMS education, technology, and industry best practices.
- Participate in curriculum development and program review processes to ensure continuous improvement and accreditation compliance.
- Provide academic advising and support to students, assisting them with their educational and career goals.
- Collaborate with colleagues, industry partners, and community organizations to enhance the EMS program and student opportunities.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and other required events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in EMS, education, or related field (must obtain Bachelor's degree within 4 years from date of hire).
- Current and valid certification as a Paramedic or higher-level EMS provider.
- BLS, ACLS and PALS Instructor (must obtain within 30 days of hire)
- NM Level II Instructor/Coordinator (must obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Minimum of 3 years of field experience in emergency medical services.
- Previous teaching experience, preferably in a post-secondary or adult education setting.
- Must pass criminal and fingerprint background check.
- Strong knowledge of EMS protocols, procedures, and regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and learning management systems (LMS).
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher).
- Experience with curriculum development and instructional design.
- Advanced certifications such as Critical Care Paramedic (CCP), Tactical Paramedic (TP-C), or EMS Instructor certification.
- Membership in relevant professional organizations (e.g., National Association of EMS Educators, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians).
- NAEMT Instructor in PHTLS, AMLS, GEMS, EPC, TECC, TCCC and EMS Safety.

Working Conditions

Work is generally performed inside a non-smoking facility and select clinical facilities. The physical demand will include lifting, moving, sitting, standing, and walking as needs of the class, lab and clinical settings progress. There will be lifting of equipment and supplies of up to, but not limited to 50 pounds. Instructors routinely assist other instructors from all disciplines of Health Education. Instructors need to be physically able to handle demands such as reaching and lifting with the use of arms, hands and fingers. Instructors must also be able to hear, speak and see due to the nature of the educational system. These are some conditions that instructors may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
