The Neuropsychological Research Associate will work under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, conducts psychological, behavioral, and neuroscience research-related activities with survivors of childhood cancer, and provides high-quality scientific and administrative assistance to departmental faculty.

This is a grant funded position and contingent upon future funding.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs psychological and neuropsychological assessment of patients across the lifespan including, reviewing medical and psychological records. Administering standardized testing of neuropsychological function (i.e., intelligence, memory, attention, processing speed, visuospatial function, executive function, and motor function), academic achievement, and emotional status. Scoring neuropsychological tests and questionnaires. Interpreting neuropsychological tests and questionnaires. Maintaining appropriate communication with patients and/or family members. Providing feedback to referring physicians and providers. Seeking consultation and review by licensed psychologists and/or departmental faculty. Documenting results of testing and appropriate recommendations in the electronic medical record. Performing data entry of test results in electronic databases.
  • Provides scientific and administrative assistance to the Chair, faculty, and departmental staff. Assignment of responsibilities will depend on projects active in the department and may include developing research batteries with supervision from faculty and staff. Assembling protocol materials for research studies. Working closely with research coordinators and administrative specialists to ensure quality assurance of scientific protocols. Managing inventory and performing re-ordering of psychological testing materials. Advising on psychological and neuropsychological resources needed for research studies. Assisting with research protocols to improve cognitive function in patients. Participating in the development of manuscripts and/or presentations at scientific conferences, if desired. Participating in interdepartmental and institutional committees as delegated by the Chair. Orienting new Neuropsychological Research Associates and students to the hospital and department.
  • Maintains professional competency by: Attending workshops and seminars. Learning new methods of psychological and neuropsychological assessment. Attending interdisciplinary conferences and departmental staff meetings. Maintaining current certification in Tennessee as a Certified Psychological Assistant or Senior Psychological Examiner.
  • Maintains positive employee, hospital staff, patient, patient family, and guest relationships.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Education with a focus in Psychology, or related discipline from a regionally accredited institution. The successful completion of a minimum of thirty-three (33) graduate semester hours in a doctoral program in psychology is acceptable in lieu of a master's degree.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of one year's experience with psychological and/or neuropsychological assessment in an applied setting either following or during attainment of Master's degree

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • (LC:PSY-ASST) Certification as a Certified Psychological Assistant or Senior Psychological Examiner by the Tennessee Board of Examiners in Psychology is required at hire or within three months of hire. If certification has not been obtained by the time of hire, must meet the Tennessee Board of Examiners in Psychology eligibility requirements for certification as a Certified Psychological Assistant at the time of hire

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $60,320 - $105,040 per year for the role of Neuropsychological Research Associate I.
