Overview

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8a-4:30p, No weekends or Holidays!!

FTE: 1.0 (40/hrs per week)

Minimum Pay Rate: $20.250/hr

The Medical Assistant may provide direct patient care to the pediatric, adolescent, or adult population served within the ambulatory setting. The MA will provide the highest quality of care. Interventions/tasks performed by the MA adhere to approved standards of care as defined by Ohio Department of Health and Nationwide Children?s Hospital?s guidelines, policies, procedures and standards. In compliance with the Ohio Administrative Code (set forth at OAC 4731-23-02(B), a Medical Assistant is considered an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP).

Responsibilities

May prepare correspondence, documents, reports and other materials of varying complexity and confidentiality, sometimes requiring independent judgment.

Schedules patient appointments and provides follow-up and reminder calls.

Assists with various clinical tasks that include rooming of patients, vital signs, heights and weights, and any applicable screening questions.

Provides basic, supportive patient care and administers approved medications under the delegation of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Collects and reports data to a licensed professional, including any abnormalities, and documents all findings in the medical record.

May act as a preceptor for orientation and training of new staff, float staff and students as directed.



Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or five years of equivalent experience, required.

Licensure: Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy.

Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Certifications: CPR certified (American Heart Association Heart saver with pediatric content) course, or Health Care Provider course or Red Cross equivalent, required.

Skills:

Strong written and verbal communications, interpersonal and problem-solving skills and professional behavior in the presence of patients and staff.

Successful completion of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel orientation, and skills verification as provided by Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Computer familiarity and literacy with general data entry.

Ability to learn and be proficient with specific computer programs, systems and Electronic Medical Record documentation.

Experience: In Liu of medical assistant program, five years of experience with blood pressures, temperatures, respirations, pulse, height, and weight, required. Pediatric experience, preferred.

Minimum Physical Requirements: Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodations, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty. Must be able to independently lift up to 25 lbs.
