Position Summary

The Director of Health Psychology Services (Director) provides strategic direction, leadership, operational planning, and supervision for all Health Psychology services provided for patients in the Cook County Health (CCH Ambulatory & Community Health Network (ACHN) clinical sites and hospital settings. The Director provides clinical consultation, mentorship, and clinical practice expertise. Identifies, develops, implements, and evaluates process and performance improvement plans in the provision of patient care and health psychology practices. Monitors adherence to regulatory compliance and clinical excellence. This Director reports directly to the Chief Psychologist and the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.

Typical Duties



  • * Provides clinical leadership and supervision for the day-to-day operations for health psychology services and staff
  • * Assesses and monitors key performance indicators and productivity.
  • * Maintains an active clinical load of 70% and 30% administrative responsibilities
  • * Participates in the candidate review/interviews, onboarding, orientation, and training of staff and students practicing in health psychology
  • * Develops established benchmarks for quality and performance in collaboration with operational leaders
  • * Works in collaboration with the Chief Psychologist, other clinical practice leaders, behavior health staff and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient care and health psychology best practices
  • * Develops and manages updates of department policies, procedures and training as requested to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and support excellence in health psychology practice and patient care
  • * Evaluates employee performance and conducts corrective action, as appropriate
  • * Oversees and ensures staff competency validation and education are current and appropriate
  • * Tracks clinical performance indicators and develops action plans
  • * Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications



  • * Doctoral degree in Clinical and/or Counseling Psychology from an accredited college or university
  • * Completion of a Pre-doctoral Psychology internship training program from an APA accredited internship program
  • * Licensed Psychologist in the State of Illinois prior to starting employment
  • * Post-doctoral training that emphasized the provision of health psychology services
  • * Three (3) years of health psychology experience
  • * One (1) year of experience leading and/managing behavioral health staff



Preferred Qualifications



  • * Prior work or training experience for one year or more in a medical setting
  • * ABPP eligible or ABPP Credentials in Health Psychology
  • * Prior experience providing supervision to trainees and/or clinical staff

  • * Knowledge and clinical expertise in Health Psychology clinical practice
  • * Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
  • * Analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/ resolution skills
  • * Ability to multi-task and be effective and efficient in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • * Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices
  • * Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged
  • * Ability to provide clear and concise documentation regarding patients and to maintain this information in a confidential manner.
  • * Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with all staff, trainees, and patients

Original credentialing documents bust be presented at time of interview.

Must successfully meet the credentialing standards established by the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to include a State of Illinois MD license and any other license, certification, or specialized training, etc. no later than two (2) weeks prior to the candidate's start date
