Atlantic Region CBO (uhs.com)

The Atlantic Region CBO is seeking a dynamic and talented Inpatient Coder for our Appeals deparment.

This position performs the primary function of coding inpatient or outpatient records to include Ambulatory, ER and Miscellaneous Ancillary charges. Utilizes 3M Encoder to code and classify inpatient and/or outpatient records according to ICD-10. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Coding of inpatient/outpatient medical records in accordance with AHA Coding/NCCI compliance guidelines. *Inpatient experience preferred
  • Review medical records online and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to inpatient and/or outpatient records.
  • Ability to code inpatient and outpatient hospital records with a 95% accuracy rate.
  • Consistently meets productivity standards in accordance with HIM Departmental guidelines.
  • Maintains a coding proficiency rating consistent with HIM Departmental standards.
  • Compliance with continued educational requirements necessary to maintain valid coding credential status.
  • Data abstraction of all physician consultations in SMS and patient's discharge deposition
  • Effective usage of designated (Quantim) Compliance Software.

  • Ability to query Medical Staff concerning documentation clarification
  • Understanding of Core Measure related diagnoses and issues
  • Understanding of and ability to implement basic documentation improvement strategies
  • Communication of significant findings affecting compliance or reimbursement to HIM Management team on an ongoing basis.
  • Communication with other hospital departments as necessary
  • Perform a variety of services, including administrative tasks as necessary, so that the needs of the hospital are met in a timely manner

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Professional coding certification
  • IP DRG experience preferred
  • 1-3 years coding experience, 3-5 years (preferred)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • An understanding of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology and medical terminology is required.
  • Familiarity with appeals and 1-3 years healthcare business office experience preferred
