Description

The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) functions as an integral health care provider in collaboration with Attending Physicians to enhance the quality of patient care outcome. Primary responsibility includes:



  • Provide direct patient care in the Outpatient Urology medical offices by assisting physicians in rendering patient care and education, as well as provide independent patient care sessions.
  • Perform History and Physicals for pre-surgical/pre-procedure clearance.
  • Contact patients in reference to their inquiries regarding patient care, including but not limited to prescriptions, patient discomfort, after care, and other inquiries regarding care.
  • Complete continuing medical education, as well as attend and participate in Dept. of Urology Grand Rounds lectures.
  • Provide post-operative care for patients, inclusive of education, wound care, and catheter changes.
  • Perform approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for patients.
  • Maintain on-going communications with physician collaborator relative to patient care and administrative issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATONS:



  • For a Nurse Practitioner

    • New York State Registered Nurse License
    • New York State certification (or eligible) as a Nurse Practitioner
    • National certification in specialty
    • Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing or Master of Science


  • For a Physician Assistant

    • New York State Physician Assistant license and certification (or eligible) as a Physician Assistant
    • Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher)
    • Graduated from an ARC-PA accredited program




PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Medical specialty of Urology experience
  • Surgical experience
  • Experience at Stony Brook Medicine either Inpatient and/or Outpatient
  • Masters of Science (foreign equivalent or higher) for Physician Assistant
