About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity to support our Legal team as a Sr. Paralegal based in Shelton, CT. The Paralegal function is responsible for providing support services to the North America Franchising Lead Counsel managing a US region. The Sr. Paralegal will be responsible for aspects of legal file preparation and management as determined from time to time by the Lead Counsel, including support for some or all of the following (1) lease resolutions, evictions, and lease related disputes across the region, (2) franchise compliance related defaults and arbitrations (including judicial confirmations and domestication) across the region, (3) civil and commercial dispute resolution across the region (including coordination with outside counsel), (4) reviewing, drafting, and management of various contracts and settlement agreements, (5) calendaring important legal and other deadlines, and (6) working with and providing legal support to internal clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • Opening and updating company databases; drafting of default letters; filling out in-take forms; reviewing and tracking various contracts and settlement agreements; supporting outside counsel handling arbitration, litigation, regulatory and transactional matters; reviewing invoices, fact-gathering within company and with potential witnesses and stakeholders; drafting lease and other settlement agreements; drafting amendments to franchise agreements; liaising with accounting department on monetary issues, including filling out accounts payable forms and requests.
  • Monitoring and supporting outside counsel with litigious files; drafting any necessary amendments and demands; schedule management for internal clients, stakeholders and witnesses (conference calls, hearings and critical dates); continual correspondence as necessary.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with arbitration and judicial orders and judgments.
  • Managing franchise and real estate files: Reviewing and drafting amendments to franchise agreements and leases, preparing letters, invoices and other correspondence; Drafting and sending notice of defaults and notice of terminations, follow up with internal team and external stakeholders on ongoing files; send and track all correspondence sent or received.
  • Special projects as needed.



Qualifications (some examples listed below):



  • Paralegal Certificate required.
  • Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in legal setting (preferably corporate).
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Advanced writing skills and the ability proofread, edit and redact documents.
  • Ability to work autonomously or with others in your team, and to provide excellent customer service.
  • Highly organized and diligent with efficient use of time and energy.
  • Ability to work with numerous electronic databases with preferred experience working with Legal Tracker.
  • Ability to work in MS Office Suite and Smartsheets.
  • Ability to think outside the box and come up with innovative solutions in matters pertaining to real estate and franchising.
  • Ability to work with a high volume of cases in different areas of the law, often with multiple conflicting parties, and to understand how to prioritize multiple and conflicting requests.
